UC OFFERS AFSCME 19 BARGAINING DATES IN NOVEMBER, 13 IN DECEMBER – AFSCME ONLY AGREES TO 3
UNIVERSITY AGAIN PROPOSES CONTRACT EXTENSION AND SUGGESTS PRE-IMPASSE MEDIATION AS A NEXT STEP
UC is committed to bargaining in good faith to secure patient care technical workers (PCTs) a comprehensive new contract; however, AFSCME continues to agree to only a limited number of one-day bargaining sessions. Since the parties began bargaining in August, AFSCME has agreed to only 13 out of more than 70 bargaining dates that UC has offered.
At Tuesday’s bargaining session, the University again proposed an extension of the contract and the introduction of a third-party mediator to negotiations with AFSCME in order to move the process forward. AFSCME rejected our proposal.
Here are a few highlights of UC’s proposals:
- PENSION BENEFITS: UC proposes to continue to offer PCTs the same retirement benefits that it offers to other UC employees.
- HEALTH CARE BENEFITS: UC will continue to offer PCTs the same excellent health benefits as other UC employees, and UC will continue to pay the majority of the cost of health insurance premiums (approximately 87% on average). For calendar year 2008, this proposal means that some employees could even see a decrease in health insurance costs.
NEXT BARGAINING SESSION: October 25.
