 August 29-30 Bargaining Update
UC met with AFSCME this week in San Francisco. AFSCME’s bargaining team completed their statement of initial demands. AFSCME continues to attempt to bargain over a separate unit they represent, the service unit employees, during our negotiations for the patient care technical employees. The University’s bargaining team once again reminded AFSCME of the scope of current negotiations, specifically, that University/AFSCME – PCT negotiations are limited to proposals surrounding the Patient Care Technical Unit.
This week the University presented the majority of its initial proposals to AFSCME, including proposals that retain the current contract language for health and retirement benefits and parking rates. Many of the University’s positions ensure that PCT employees are treated no differently than other UC employees. These preliminary proposals represent a starting point for negotiations, and the University looks forward to working with AFSCME to reach agreement on all open articles.
The next bargaining session is scheduled for September 6th in a location yet to be determined. While the parties have agreed to a total of four bargaining dates in September, the University continues to seek additional dates throughout the month in an effort to work towards timely resolution on a new contract for patient care technical employees, whose current contract expires on September 30, 2007.
