UC REACHES AGREEMENT WITH AFSCME ON A SIDE LETTER FOR 2008 HEALTH BENEFITS AS THE PARTIES MOVE TO IMPASSE

UC REACHES AGREEMENT WITH AFSCME ON A SIDE LETTER FOR 2008 HEALTH BENEFITS AS THE PARTIES MOVE TO IMPASSE

UC received confirmation from AFSCME on Monday, December 17 that it agrees with a side letter that outlines UC patient care technical employees' health benefits in 2008.  This side letter allows for the following:

·         UC PCT employees represented by AFSCME will pay the same for health benefits in 2008 as other UC employees;

·         Due to the late agreement, 2008 rates will not be effective for PCT employees until February 2008.  Changes will appear on the 1/23/08 paycheck for employees who are paid bi-weekly, and on the 2/1/08 paycheck for employees paid on a monthly basis.

Negotiations between UC and AFSCME have been certified to impasse by the Public Employment Relations Board.  Although a mediator has yet to be appointed, we expect that the parties will next meet in January 2008.
