UC PRESENTS AFSCME WITH A SECOND PACKAGE PROPOSAL

UC PRESENTS AFSCME WITH A SECOND PACKAGE PROPOSAL

At bargaining this week in San Diego, the University presented AFSCME with a package proposal which comprehensively addresses each of the articles in the contract.

A few highlights of UC's package proposal include:

  • Retention of the current wage structure for year one with individual increases ranging from approximately 1.5% to 11% (varies by title and location);
  • Transition to a step structure in year two;
    Movement through the step structure in year three, based on performance;
  • Continue to provide health care and retirement benefits to employees at the same costs as they are provided to other UC employees;
  • Framework for annual limits on the amount that can be charged for parking.

In designing the wage portion of this package proposal, the University engaged in a salary survey process which consisted of examining local comparators (or comparators outside the local area when no qualifying competitors can be identified) in order to determine market competitive wage levels.  This data, in conjunction with recruitment and retention issues, was used to form the foundation for the University's wage portion of the package proposal.

UC remains committed to bargaining in good faith and looks forward to reaching agreement on all remaining economic and non-economic issues.
