UC SHARES PACKAGE PROPOSAL WITH UNION
UC met with AFSCME on Thursday, October 25 to continue bargaining toward resolution on a new contract for University Patient Care Technical employees. The negotiation process with AFSCME has been slow moving thus far, due in part to the union’s limited availability. At this session, the University shared a package proposal for a multi-year agreement with the union. The package proposal lays out a plan for agreement on the major issues at hand, contingent upon tentative agreement on all outstanding economic and non-economic issues. UC’s package proposal contained the following highlighted provisions:
WAGES: UC outlined its wage proposal for the union. While the proposal doesn’t yet enumerate actual percentage increases, it lays out a schedule for market based increases in the first year, transition to steps in the second year and movement through the steps based on satisfactory or better performance in the third year.
BENEFITS: UC is offering the same high quality, affordable benefits that other UC employees receive.
PARKING: The same parking rates as those charged to other UC employees.
This week, AFSCME continued to propose elimination of all attendance standards in a patient care environment. One of our key goals for bargaining is to reach agreement on a contract that allows UC medical centers to continue to provide the excellent patient care they’re known for. AFSCME’s insistence on the removal of these standards would severely inhibit UC’s ability to provide quality care for patients.
